Lafawndah x random studio
THURSDAY 30 MAY 2019
For the fourth and final edition of Future Rising 2019, devotional pop polymath Lafawndah collaborates with Amsterdam’s Random Studio to design a holistic interactive experience that pushes the boundaries of how the physical and digital worlds can collide. In the spotlight is Lafawndah’s headlining themed DJ set.
Lafawndah’s journey to her current incarnation has wound as unpredictably as her compositional style. Her live shows have become an ever-evolving testing ground for ruptures in the seamless concert experience, pitting committed humour against relentless physicality - most recently applied to her carefully curated and created HONEY COLONY live concept which debuted in London in December 2018, and her premiere performance at the Barbican, London of Ceremonial Blue with Midori Takada. Through her own self-directed music videos – such as for the recent single Joseph – and forthcoming visual art pieces, Lafawndah continues to grow a cinematic body of work which portrays a fascination with the counterpoints between music, body and space. Lafawndah's music has a spirit of maximalism: an overflow of detail, feeling and ideas. Her debut album ANCESTOR BOY was released via her own imprint CONCORDIA to wide acclaim in March of 2019.
Random Studio is a Dutch creative studio of visual artists, designers, strategists and engineers who collaborate to create immersive experiences - physical and nonphysical - that blur the boundaries between art, design and technology.
Carista is without a doubt a hidden gem of The Netherlands' burgeoning electronic scene. With early support from Radio 1 tastemaker Benji B, now a resident on Amsterdam’s much-loved Red Light Radio and London’s NTS, having played out at the finest Dutch clubs De School, Claire and BIRD, and been invited on tour with the ever-brilliant Fatima Yamaha, it’s clear Dutch-Surinamese DJ Caristais moving in all the right circles. Expect high energy, eclectic selections from electronic rhythms to soulful grooves and everything in between.
SIROJ is one of Amsterdam's most prominent producers. Inundated from an early in age with sounds of the 70s and 80s he cut his teeth producing for Dutch hip hop heavyweights Dio, Sef, Gers Pardoel, Jiggy Dje and Kraantje Pappie. Since then his relentless work ethic has been turning heads, co-producing for the likes of DJ Mustard, Ty Dolla $ign, Tyga and Yellow Claw’s “Blood For Mercy”, delivering official remixes for Hoodboi and Lido’s “Palmreader” and for Yellow Claw’s massive hit “Till It Hurts” album and establishing himself as a musician, producer, composer, remix virtuoso and DJ in his own right.
Progressive creative platform out of Amsterdam on the front lines of avant-garde culture straddling music, art, fashion and everything in-between, who curate content by influential, carefully selected individuals who can’t be regulated by normative social, political, and/or geographic factors.
